The Baha’i House of Worship stands as a symbol of unity. It is a sacred space for all people to commune with God. The House of Worship is open daily to all for contemplation, personal prayer and meditation. The building’s white walls of lace-like ornamentation, and its dome rising 135 feet above the main floor, create a scene of unsurpassed beauty and tranquility. Exquisite gardens and fountains surround the Temple, and directly, to the west, is a Welcome Center, where visitors may explore the history and symbolism of this unique structure and watch a brief introductory film. The magnificent mansion of former U.S. Vice-President Charles Gates Dawes is located adjacent to Lake Michigan. This National Historic Landmark has been faithfully restored to its 1920s origins and enhanced with exhibits focusing on Evanston history. Docent led tours of the house take place a few times daily Thursday through Sunday. Spring, summer and fall, lively docent-led walking tours of Evanston neighborhoods, downtown, and the lakefront are offered. The tours provide fun and fascinating insights into the history of Evanston, its architecture, and the cultural landscape.

Ravinia, North America’s oldest music festival, stands today as its most musically diverse, presenting over 140 different events throughout the summer. Built on the shores of Lake Michigan by the United States Government in 1873 as the lead lighthouse marking the approach to Chicago after several shipwrecks demonstrated its need. In 1999, Grosse Point Lighthouse was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service; the first lighthouse on the Great Lakes to carry that status. The Garden Club of Evanston maintains wildflower and butterfly gardens on its property.
SKOKIE NORTHSHORE SCULPTURE PARK

A collaboration of public and private advocates turned an eyesore into this beautiful park that runs for two miles from Dempster Street to Touhy Avenue in Skokie and displays more than 60 sculptures by artists of local, national and international reputation. A lovely landscaped and easily accessible place to stroll, rollerblade or bicycle. Free monthly public tours offered by well-trained volunteer docents. Private group tours available for a nominal charge.
