Lake Bluff provides a traditional and historical neighborhood feeling for both residents and visitors. Although it is a relatively quaint community, Lake Bluff has its own train station on the Chicago & Northwestern line, interstate highway access via Rte. 41 and directly west of Lake Bluff is I-294, all providing access for commuters to Chicago or Milwaukee. It is bordered by Lake Michigan on the east, Great Lakes Naval Base to the north, Lake Forest to the South and unincorporated Lake County to the west.
Recreation
Lake Bluff Park District’s ten parks/open space areas are meticulously maintained for the community’s use in both unstructured recreation and for programmed events such as baseball and tennis. The district operates 1 outdoor aquatic facility, one recreation building, golf course, fitness, ice skating rink, paddle hut, playgrounds and two beaches (north and south).
Schools
Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65 is a medium-sized school district founded in 1895 with an enrollment of approximately 900 students which provide an outstanding pre-kindergarten through eighth grade educational program. Lake Bluff Middle School was renovated in 2016 with two new classroom wings, a new library, cafeteria, and a Makerspace. High school students then attend neighboring Lake Forest Community High School, District 115.
Transportation
Directly west of Lake Bluff is I-94 which has an average drive time of 1 hour to the Loop. O’hare is 30 minutes away by car while Midway via I-294 is a little over an hour away. Commuters can get on the Metra at the Lake Bluff station in which that line provides access to Chicago through Ogilvie Station and to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Average commute time on the Metra to Chicago is about an hour Express or 1.5hrs on the local trains.
